FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup technique using a handheld tool to manually create hyper-realistic hair strokes.
Microblading is an ideal solution for clients who have patchy, thin, or uneven eyebrows and are looking for the most natural looking results. However, not everyone is a candidate for microblading and there are different elements to consider such as skin condition and health. Microblading is most suitable for clients with normal skin and small pores. Oil in the skin can cause the Microblading hair-stroke to expand and blur so the less oily the client skin is, the better the result would be.
WHAT IS COMBINATION BROW?
A combination of microblading and powder fill. Microblading hair-strokes are placed with a manual tool around the beginning of the brow to give the brow a fluffy, natural look. The powder effect is applied to the body of the brow using a permanent makeup device to give the brow its fullness.
This technique are great for clients with normal to moderately oily skin. So if your skin is too oily for microblading alone, combo brows might be a viable alternative. For someone with very sparse brows, the shading can give the brow more body, while the hair-strokes keep it looking natural.
WHAT IS OMBRE POWDER BROW?
Unlike Microblading, the Ombre powder method uses a digital machine to insert tiny dots of pigment into the skin to create a soft, powder-filled look. The tails of the brow are darker and fade into a light start at the beginning of the brow, giving a perfect Ombre makeup affect.
For clients who draw on their eyebrows everyday, this can be an amazing, beautiful solution. It is also a great alternative for clients that are not good candidates for Microblading or Combo Brows because their skin is too oily as shading is suitable for any skin type!
WHAT IS LIP BLUSH?
Lip blush is a semi-permanent makeup treatment designed for your lips, which allows you to enhance your natural color and shape, giving definition and the illusion of fullness. It also can camouflage some minor corrections like asymmetry, scarring, or hyperpigmentation. Once healed, this treatment delivers very natural results, your lip but fuller, healthier looking.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you have a history of cold sores you'll need to start taking an anti-viral prescription (Valacyclovir, Denavir (penciclovir), Valtrex or acyclovir (Zovirax)), at least a week BEFORE your proposed procedure. Cold sore outbreaks are often triggered by stress or trauma to the lips and skin. Therefore if you are a carrier, lip blush will likely cause an outbreak if you do not take an anti-viral medication prior.
No Lip Filler/treatments 3 weeks before or after procedure.
WHAT IS EYELINER TATTOO?
Lash line enhancement is a semi-permanent treatment that places pigment along your top or bottom lash lines (not your waterline). The line can be thick or thin as your own natural lashes, and it doesn't have a flick or extended tip. It's just to fill in the lashes to create the illusion of thicker, darker, and completely fuller lashes without looking lined or like obvious makeup.
Classic eyeliner is a thin eyeliner (top liner) application with a flick or extended wing. It’s a great option for those that want a thin eyeliner line for daily look, but still has option to build it up further with makeup.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
No contact lenses or eyelash extension/eyes makeup on the day of the procedure. Please either have your lash extension removed or make sure there is no extension left on your lash prior to the appointment.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
All permanent make up treatment typically last 1-3 years. Yearly touch up is recommended to keep color looking fresh.
AM I A CANDIDATE?
Permanent makeup is NOT RECOMMENDED for any clients who are or have:
• Pregnant or nursing
• History of Keloids or Hypertrophic scarring
• Diabetic (require doctor’s clearance)
• Chemotherapy (consult your doctor)
• Viral infections and/or diseases
• Epilepsy
• Pacemaker or major heart problems
• Organ transplant
• Skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.)
• Accutane in the past year
• Autoimmune disorder
WHAT FACTORS WILL EFFECT MY RESULTS?
Oily Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and fade very quickly, or not stick at all. If you have combination or oily skin, you are a candidate for a combination brow or ombre shading, but not for microblading.
Sun Exposure: Increased sun exposure will cause premature fading or color turning ashy. I recommend all clients use an SPF on their brows once healed.
Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. Pinpoint bleeding throughout the procedure is normal, but excessive bleeding causes pigment to fade quickly and heal ashy. While bleeding is not entirely in our control, it is important you follow pre-care instructions to help minimize bleeding at your appointment. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications and alcohol for 24 hours before you procedure.
Improper Preparation and Aftercare: Not following the given pre and post care instructions will greatly diminish your healed results.
DOES IT HURT?
We use a topical anesthetic to numb the area before and during the procedure to keep you comfortable. Most customers report minimal to no pain during process.
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE MY COLOR?
I normally choose color based off client’s skin tone and natural brow color, can be a shade lighter or darker as requested. For clients who have no brows, I can either match with your hair color or your favorite eyebrow pencil. For clients with gray brows, I match color based on the rest of your natural brows, may be a shade lighter to keep it soft , but you will either need to tint your brows regularly or using colored brows gel to cover the gray brows to avoid brow looking patchy.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
2 WEEKS BEFORE
Botox: If you regularly get botox or dysport, it must be done at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment. Botox takes two weeks to fully settle in the skin.
Waxing/Threading: I recommend coming to your appointment with your brows grown out! I will clean up any unneeded hairs at the appointment with a disposable brow razor. If you need to clean them up beforehand, please do so at least 3 days prior. If you tint your eyebrows, make sure this is done at least 7 days prior.
Retin-A/Retinols/Tretinoin: Please refrain from using any retin-a products in the brow area for 2 weeks leading up to your appointment.
24 HOURS BEFORE
To minimize bleeding during the procedure, please avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine. Blood thinning medications such as Ibuprofen and Advil should be avoided unless prescribed by a doctor.
DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT:
Avoid exercise. Exercising increases blood flow and can cause excessive bleeding, leading to poor healed results.
Makeup: You are welcome to come to your appointment with or without makeup on. If you normally fill your brows in with makeup, feel free to come with them filled in so I can see the shape you’re used to seeing.
DO YOU OFFER TOUCH UP FOR OTHER ARTIST’S WORK?
I do not offer touch up for other artist’s work. My touch up pricing is for existing clients only. If you brow/lip/eyeliner is not previously done by me, it will be considered as full- priced session when you book.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?
It is normal to feel a sunburned sensation immediately after and for a couple of days, followed by dry, itchy or tender skin.
Brows will appear darker and bolder immediately and a few days after the appointment. During healing, they will lighten 30-40% and shrink in size.
Healing takes approximately 4-6 weeks. As your skin naturally exfoliates and regenerates, you will notice color change, pigment disappearing, and reappearing as they settle.
Color may flake off and appear softer and less visible but will slowly reappear over the next few weeks.
This is all absolutely normal and why two appointments are necessary. Be patient and know that this is normal and expected during the healing process.
AFTERCARE
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
Wash brows morning and night for 7-10 days with gentle cleanser. Begin washing within 4 hours of getting brows done. Make sure to wash outside shower, look in the mirror while washing so you can make sure to be extra gentle. Only wipe gently in the direction of hair growth, no circles or hard rubbing. Wash with warm or cool water and pat dry with clean paper towel. Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or A+D ointment 3 times a day for 10 days or until there is no more scabbing/flaking left.
WHAT TO AVOID FOR 7-10 DAYS
Increased sweating, exercise, strenuous activity
Getting your brows/forehead wet outside of instructed washing in pools, sauna, jacuzzi, oceans/lakes, baths, etc.
Tanning bed use at any time after having brows tattooed can cause discoloration and premature fading.
Natural tanning. Once healed, use an SPF to avoid premature fading and/or discoloration due to UVA/UVB rays.
DO NOT PICK at flaking or possible scabbing, this will cause scarring and pigment loss. Let all skin naturally exfoliate off.
Avoid Retin-A, retinol, Vitamin A and oils on the forehead
DO I NEED A TOUCH UP APPOINTMENT?
Yes! A touch up session after 6-8 weeks is necessary as everyone heals differently and outcome will vary. Certain areas may not pick up during first session and will need to be refilled. Pigment color may need to be adjusted, brow/eyeliner thickness and and more hair strokes can be added. Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils tend to lighten the pigment. Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows/eyeliner/lip to ensure it looks perfect and retains the color for the whole year!
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED A TOUCH-UP?
10-18 months is ideal time for color boost/fill-in.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?
For the first session, the entire procedure should take about 2-3 hours. During this session, the brow technician will shape and style the client’s brows for client approval. We then follow with pigment color selection. Once the client is satisfied with the choices, we begin the procedure.
The client is to come in for a follow up visit in order to have any minor necessary touch ups. The second session takes place after 6-8 weeks after the initial session. This session will take approximately 1-1.5 hours to complete.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?
It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows, 5-7 days for lip and eyeliner to heal over, and about 1 month for the color to fully set in. You'll notice the color is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True color will reveal itself once the skin completely healed, which is 4-6 weeks.
